#PumpkinBeerWeek: Heavy Seas Brewing Co. – The GreatER Pumpkin

photo-5

Upon first sip of this one, I made a simple exclamation of “Holy SHIT!” Why you might ask? Yes, it’s super pumpkin-y, BUT, the GreatER Pumpkin from Heavy Seas Brewing is the first of the lot we’ve tried that’s aged in bourbon barrels, and let me tell you, it shows.

This is an aggressive pumpkin beer, and that’s a GOOD thing. It’s rare to find something with this kind of — balls (gross) — in the category, but this really does it. An unapologetic ABV gives you that whiskey sting, but you also get some nice sweetness and pumpkin spices here. This, over all others, really picks up that vanilla, oak-ey-ness that pairs perfectly with these flavors.

We won’t call a winner early, but this is definitely the one to beat.
